Special Card for Institutions

What is an institutional library card?

An institutional library card is designed to support the needs of an institution or community organization, e.g. a school, preschool, daycare centre, family resource centre, medical facility, or business. With an institutional card, a staff member, volunteer or other worker can borrow from any of our branches or from the satellite sites without having to use his or her personal library card. Institutional cards are valid for one year.

Who may apply?

Any staff member, volunteer, or other worker granted permission to borrow materials on behalf of the institution or organization may apply.

How do I apply?

You can obtain an institutional card contract from any branch or satellite site. Each authorized staff member, volunteer or other worker must fill out the form and have their administrative authority (e.g. principal, director, chief executive officer, president) co-sign indicating permission. The contract may be returned to any branch or satellite site, or sent to library headquarters by mail or fax. Upon receipt of the signed contract(s), the library will mail the card(s) to the institution.

What are the responsibilities attached to the use of an institutional library card?

An institutional card follows the same public service policies and fines schedule that applies to cards issued to individuals. Please see the library's general information brochure for details.

Upon signing this contract the cardholder and ultimately the institution will be responsible for payment of any overdue fines and/or payment for any damaged or lost materials. The card must be presented when borrowing items. When the card expires, a new contract must be submitted.
