OverDrive Help for eReaders

These instructions apply to multiple eReaders

  1. Go to lovemylibrary.ca

  2. Click “Download eBooks and Audiobooks from Overdrive” on the right hand side of the library homepage.

  3. (1-Time Step) Download “Adobe Digital Editions” by clicking “Help” at the top right of the screen and then “Applications”. Choose “Adobe Digital Editions”

    1. Click on “Download” and Choose to download for either Mac or Windows.

    2. Click “Run” (on other kinds of Internet Browser click “Open” or “Save As”) in the window that pops up.
    3. Open Adobe Digital Editions on your desktop.

    4. Follow the onscreen directions to set up an account with Adobe, providing an email address and password.

    5. If these directions do not appear, click on “Help” at the top left of the screen in Adobe Digital Editions and click on “Authorize Computer” from the menu that drops down.

    6. If the computer will not accept your email address and password, go to accounts.adobe.com and create an account on this website to register. This Adobe ID that you are creating contains an email address and password. After you have created an Adobe ID, enter this email address and password into the setup screen back in the Adobe Digital Editions program

  4. Maximize the Internet Browser window, and find a book on the Nova Scotia Public Libraries’ website that you would like to check out

  5. Mouse over the book cover and click “Borrow”. (Note: In the top right there will be an icon of a book. If this icon is black, the book is available. If the icon is grey the book is currently being used but you can place a hold on it.)

  6. Choose “Colchester – East Hants Public Library” and type in your library card number and your PIN number (usually the last 4 digits of your home phone number)

  7. Click the button labelled “Download”

    1. Click “Open” in the window that pops up. If “Open” does not pop up, choose “Save As” and make sure you save the book to your desk top so you know where it is.

  8. Open up Adobe Digital Editions 

    1. If you chose “Open”, the eBook should show up in this program. If you choose “Save” you will have to drag and drop the eBook into the opened Adobe Digital Editions program.

    2. To read the book on your computer, just double-click on the book’s cover or title.

  9. Plug in eReader to the computer

    1. The name of your eReader should pop up at the bottom of the menu list on the left hand side of the screen.

  10. Drag and drop the book cover or title over onto the eReader’s name. Unplug your eReader and enjoy!


    Note:
    1) To return the book early, right click on the book’s cover in Adobe Digital Editions and choose “Return Borrowed Item”.
    2) You can choose a borrowing period of 7, 14 or 21 days. To change your borrowing period:
    a. Click on account and, enter in your library card number and your PIN number (usually the last 4 digits of your home phone number)
    b. Click Settings and choose your borrowing period.
